Last, but not least...
Foothill College was the last stop on
my tour. They asked me if I would come early on the day that
I arrived because they had so much to show me, and indeed, they did
(VRC Grand Opening pictured left). On the next few pages, you
will get a feel for what I think was the most integrated VRC and
DSPS program. Integration is often about organizational
charts and I certainly did not spend enough time at a given college
to truly assess the closeness of the ties, but at Foothill, it was
obvious that the VRC and DSPS are really on the same page.
So to my chagrin, when I started to edit my film, I was
disheartened to realize that the video of the VRC and a couple of
Veteran interviews did not get on tape (the only real camera screw
up or fubar of the trip, if you don't count the overall skill
of the cameraman). In some ways, this might be a
blessing. The Foothill VRC was about as big as my closet and
it is not a walk-in closet. However, if I had not messed up,
you would see that everything shown in the other VRC tours was in
the Foothill VRC. I don't know how they got it all in, but
they did.
The good news here is that they are moving very, very soon to a
really wonderful space near the Adaptive Learning Center and I
promise to somehow get some pictures of their new digs when they
are completed. So, my apologies to Gertrude Gregorio, the
Dean, and Carmela Xuereb, the Certifying Official (who is
universally loved, by the way) for not getting all the good stuff
in.
