implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for title II
(State and local government services) and title III (public
accommodations and commercial facilities) on September 15, 2010, in
the Federal Register. These requirements, or rules, clarify and
refine issues that have arisen over the past 20 years and contain
new, and updated, requirements, including the 2010 Standards for
Accessible Design ("2010 Standards").

provides the scoping and technical requirements for new

The Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (the Commission or the EEOC) issues its final revised
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and accompanying
interpretive guidance in order to implement the ADA Amendments Act
of 2008. The Commission is responsible for enforcement of title I
of the ADA, as amended, which prohibits employment discrimination
on the basis of disability. Pursuant to the ADA Amendments Act of
2008, the EEOC is expressly granted the authority to amend these
regulations, and is expected to do so.

number of significant changes to the definition of "disability"
under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It also
directed the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to
amend its ADA regulations to reflect the changes made by the
ADAAA. The EEOC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM)
on September 23, 2009. The final regulations were approved by
a bipartisan vote and were published in the Federal Register on
March 25, 2011.
